Volunteer Pam Parker Distinguished with Two 2007 Community Service Awards

Pam Parker was awarded the 2007 Community Volunteer for Service to Children by Anderson County United Way and the 2007 Statewide Child Advocate of the Year by The South Carolina Network of Children's Advocacy Centers.

Pam Parker is an amazing person who has served Foothills Alliance as a volunteer nurse for the past several years.

She assists sexually abused children during their medical examination at the Foothills Child Advocacy Center of Foothills Alliance. She is a selfless, caring and dedicated lady who is willing to do whatever it takes to provide a healing hand to children who have been sexually abused. In the past several years Pam has assisted our doctor with numerous medical exams. Theses medical exams can be very difficult for children to tolerate due to the fact that they have already been victimized and for them to experience this type of medical procedure may seem to be traumatizing to them once again. Through her caring nature, she transforms the ordinary tasks of assisting a doctor into acts of heroism. Each of her responsibilities she carries out with tender compassion-- helping heal one of the deepest hurts a child can endure.

She also has been involved in the community education of Foothills Alliance by teaching elementary school children the Safe Touch curriculum to help prevent child sexual abuse. Her rapport with the students is amazing, and the safety tips learned by the children will benefit them in ways that can never be measured. This volunteer not only provides support to sexually abused children, she also has been an advocate for our agency by participating in two of our fundraisers last year and rushing to our aid during our recent move. This special person has been faithful to our agency and to the children of Anderson and Oconee Counties during times where she has had illness and complexity of our in her own life. She is to be commended for a volunteer service that touches the hearts and lives of these vulnerable children in trauma.
